This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to comply with racing industry ethics and behave with integrity regarding the rules of racing and related protocols.

The unit applies to individuals who work in the racing industry in greyhound, harness or thoroughbred codes.

No occupational licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Identify protocols and practices related to working ethically and with integrity relevant to own work role 
Abide by community expectation, workplace practices and legislation relating to animal welfare 
Carry out directions and requests from stewards and officials according to workplace policy 
Comply with appeals, inquiry and compliance processes and procedures in racing 
Provide information about racing that is positive and accurate and does not breach the rules of racing 
Use information sensitively and in the best interests of the racing industry 
Outline and observe the Principal Racing Authority’s social media policy, including regulations and legislation related to non-discriminatory language and behaviour 
Apply personal grooming and presentation requirements for job role 
Recognise community interests in racing and ensure that personal commentary, opinion and behaviour is non-discriminatory and does not cause damage to the image of racing 
Conduct open, honest and ethical dealings with industry organisations and individual stakeholders, and treat the ideas and opinions of others with politeness and respect
